MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES OF THE PALATINE PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, HELD AT THE PALATINE PUBLIC LIBRARY. 700 N. NORTH COURT, PALATINE, IN SAID DISTRICT AT 7:15 P.M. ON MARCH 1, 2007

CALL TO ORDER

President Salter called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Secretary Schersten was present.

ROLL CALL

Upon roll call, Trustees Barnes, Beals, Heggem, Illian, Salter, Schersten, and Zuckert were physically present.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Session canceled.

DIRECTOR SEARCH

This meeting was held in a room where conference calling was possible. Most of the meeting was devoted to interviewing, by means of conference calls, three search firms which had been predetermined at the previous meeting (Corbus, Pollack, and Gossage Sager). The time of interviews with representatives of each firm had been scheduled (half hour each). Interviews took place as scheduled.

Further discussion focused on the wording of advertisements for the Library District’s directorship opening, and where and when such ads should be placed. Consensus was that ads should appear as soon as possible.

Trustee Beals moved, seconded by Trustee Zuckert, to place an ad in the April issue of American Libraries if the print deadline permits. The results of the roll call were:

AYE: Barnes, Beals, Heggem, Illian, Salter, Schersten and Zuckert

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: None

ABSENT: None

MOTION CARRIED.

After some further discussion, Trustee Barnes moved, seconded by Trustee Illian, to reconvene this meeting on Monday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m. The results of the roll call were:

AYE: Barnes, Beals, Heggem, Illian, Salter, Schersten, and Zuckert

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: None

ABSENT: None

MOTION CARRIED.

The meeting was suspended at 9:52 p.m. to reconvene on March 5 at 7:00 p.m.

MEETING OF MARCH 1 RECONVENED

The suspended meeting of March 1 reconvened at 7:05 p.m. on March 5. Upon roll call, Trustees Barnes, Beals, Heggem, Illian, Salter, Schersten and Zuckert were again physically present.

A scheduled conference call with Ron Dubberly, representing another search firm, began at 7:30 p.m. and ended at 8:05 p.m.

Discussion resumed on the direction this search should now take.

Trustee Barnes moved, seconded by Trustee Schersten, that the Palatine Public Library District engage Gossage Sager Associates to assist the Board of Library Trustees in its search for its new Library Director at a price set forth in the contract subject to attorney approval. The results of the roll call were:

AYE: Barnes, Beals, Heggem, Illian, Salter, Schersten, and Zuckert

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: None

ABSENT: None
